When most people hear “CPA” they think of busy season, taxes, and long hours. But for me, stepping into advisory has allowed me to grow in my career and build meaningful connections, all while providing me with the flexibility to spend quality time with my family.
Constant Learning and Growing
The ever changing environment of advisory has allowed me to step into new roles, industries, and challenges. Every client brings a new experience that pushes me outside of my comfort zone. Learning builds over time as I am able to take past experiences, apply them to a current engagement, gain a new perspective, and carry that forward. These experiences have helped me to build confidence in areas I never expected.
Real Flexibility
As a new mom, my time is more stretched than ever. With advisory, I am able to serve my clients in an impactful way while also being present for the moments that matter to me most. I can be there to watch my daughter crawl for the first time and have nightly dinners with my husband. I am able to design my schedule to support career growth and family life. I do not feel like I have to choose between being present at home or pushing myself professionally- I am able to achieve both.
Serving Others
Most people would not view CPA as a career path centered around serving others. Yet I am able to find fulfillment in my job by making someone else’s life just a little bit easier. There is something meaningful about being the person a client turns to when they are feeling overwhelmed or unsure. Being able to alleviate a bit of that fulfills me in a way that I did not expect when starting out in my career.
Human Connection
Working in advisory allows me to work closely with clients in a way that goes beyond crunching numbers. I am helping them to navigate business challenges, optimize processes, and create solutions to help them drive growth. Connecting with others and building partnerships motivates me and keeps me energized.
Despite being early in my journey, advisory has given me the space to grow professionally and be fulfilled personally. I am able to challenge myself, connect with others, and constantly learn.
During the interview process at Taylor White, I said that I was looking for three things in a company: the opportunity to grow and learn, positive company culture with real human connection, and the flexibility to be a present mom and wife. I feel incredibly grateful to be part of a team that shares these values and stives for professional excellence.
